Is Fruit Juice Healthier than Other Beverages?

Generally, parents tend choose fruit juice as the preferred drinks for their children. It is true that fruit juice is a healthier option compared to soda as it contains vitamins and dietary fibre. However, the sugar content of fruit juice is not lower than that of soda, so consuming excessively can contribute to overweight. Also, the fruit juices sold in the market are mostly added preservatives or stabilizers to prolong their shelf life.  The dietary fibre of fresh fruit is much higher than that of fruit juice, so it is recommended to eat fresh fruit.

 

Food generally contains sugar, so it is recommended to avoid adding sugar to drinks. Sugar does have its function to human body as it can stimulate the secretion of dopamine which can makes us happy. However, when drinking beverages with a high sugar content, the blood sugar level rises instantly which triggers the production of insulin to lower blood sugar. Drinking high-sugar beverages for a long period of time will reduce the insulin sensitivity in the body, which may lead to diabetes.
