Children’s Diet Relates to their Lack of Concentration

Children with a lack of concentration or ADHD often struggle to focus, are hyperactive and impulsive. These negatively affect their learning, social skills, mental wellbeing and as well as contribute to them having a lack of self-esteem, which may make their every day life challenging.

 

 Poor Nutrition Contribute to ADHD Symptoms

Recently, a research institute in Taiwan found that ADHD may be related to food. Although the congenital part cannot be altered, eating habits can also affect the body’s serotonin levels, causing patients more prone to hyperactivity. Studies have found children with attention deficit problems tend to consume less nutritious foods, especially foods high in sugar and oil; while it’s less likely for them to consume vegetables, fruits, milk, meat, poultry, fish, soy milk, eggs and other nutrients foods.

 

 

A Balanced Diet is the Key to Concentration

Carbohydrates, amino acids, vitamins and minerals are all crucial elements for normal brain functioning. Consuming enough carbohydrates and protein foods through eating a balanced diet, and supplementing vitamins and minerals by eating vegetables and fruits.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter in the brain, which requires the vitamin B6 in the synthesis process. Therefore, eating foods that are rich in vitamin B6, such as: meat, whole grains, vegetables and nuts in moderation can help the brain function properly, which in turn improves concentration.

Children with ADHD should limit:

Barbecue and fried food

Sugary drinks

Food with too much saturated fat

Food contains inorganic phosphate (usually found in soft drinks, processed food, processed meat and snacks)

Children with ADHD should eat more:

Fresh vegetables and fruits

Dark green vegetables

Lean Meat

Dairy Product

Whole Grains and Nuts
